Peace Sign Necklace - Show You Care

If you are looking for a way to let the whole world know that you truly believe in world peace and taking better care of our home planet, then you need a peace sign necklace. This one piece of jewelry will do more to show everyone where your heart is than anything you could possibly say, as it can be seen by anyone whether you are talking to them or simply passing by. Rooted in the 60s, but brought back into vogue with the new century the peace sign has been adopted as the symbol of world peace and a sound ecology.

Roots

The peace symbol actually has its roots in 1959 England where the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament regularly rallied across the country. The leadership felt that they needed a symbol that they could rally under and hire commercial artist Gerald Holtom to create it. The image he created resembled the man shown in the painting by Goya, "Peasant Facing a Firing Squad" and an upside down cross with broken arms. In fact many churches considered the image as very much a pagan symbol and as such forbade their members from wearing as much as a peace sign necklace.

The symbol immigrated across the ocean to the US in the suitcase of a young college student who had attended one of the rallies and had collected a collection of badges. He returned to his college and passed them out amongst his friends, who immediately took a liking to them. They used the symbol at their own peace rally where it was dubbed the peace symbol. In just a few short months the new peace symbol had become a national phenomenon.

Present Times

The peace symbol remained very popular throughout the 70s to slowly fade out in the me generations of the 80s and 90s. People of these generations traded in their peace sign necklace for bling and fancy sport utility vehicles that were the antithesis of everything that had been fought for in the preceding decades.  People were far more self absorbed than ever before and the ideology of world peace seemed to slip by the wayside.

If you have been paying attention to the latest fashion and styles in recent years you will have seen that the peace sign is back with a vengeance. Now more popular than it was in the 60s the peace sign has become the rallying symbol of the whole world, a far cry from what Gerald Holtom had in mind when he first created it. You will find that many of the elite star of both film and music can be seen wearing a peace sign necklace.

More than just a symbol of world peace there are many pieces of peace sign jewelry that are being worn simply because they are the hottest pieces of jewelry in the fashion scene. While global awareness is vital not everyone is on board, however most of those who choose to wear peace sign jewelry are very much interested in taking better care of the world we live in.
